GUILD COMMUNICATIONS IS PLEASED TO HOST A PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION ON IMAGE RETRIEVAL BY DR. THEODORE WILLIAMS
On Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at 12:00 p.m., in the corporate headquarters of GUILD Communications, Dr. Theodore Williams will host a discussion on the emerging importance of image retrieval in the field of communications and multimedia.
Dr. Williams' company, AIMSTAR, is a provider of database system and multimedia solutions that is located locally in Columbia, MD. His presentation will feature his work with content-based retrieval of images based on color, shape, texture, and location. Images are everywhere in today's environment, and several of today's business applications can benefit greatly from effective image management. We would like to be able to store, index, and retrieve these images in a way similar to the management of traditional alphanumeric structured data. But, accurate indexing and retrieval of images based on image content is much more difficult than with structured data. Dr. Williams' work recognizes the need for tools to analyze images and create signatures based on image content that will help us index, retrieve, and manage images.
