Dr. Hasler will present NASA/NOAA E Theatre 2003 “Vision of Our Planet’s Atmosphere, Land and Oceans. The electronic theater presents Earth science observations from space in a spectacular way. The demonstration will fly the audience from Baltimore to the 2002 Olympic Winter games using data from NASA satellites and will feature the latest in U.S. and international global satellite weather images of hurricanes, typhoons, and tornadoes. Dr. Hasler will show the latest in visualization remote sensing missions such as Terra, GOES, SeaWiFS and LandSats. He will also present images of the earth city lights, fishing fleets, gas flares, and bio-mass at night as observed by the “night vision” DMSP satellite. The presentation will be made with the latest HDTV technology.

Dr. Hasler is an international known researcher and has 40 years of major career accomplishments with NASA.

Dr. Williams’ company, AIMSTAR, is a provider of database system and multimedia solutions which is located locally in Columbia, MD. His presentation will feature his work with content-based retrieval of images based on color, shape, texture, and location. Images are everywhere in today's environment, and several of today's business applications can benefit greatly from effective image management. We would like to be able to store, index, and retrieve these images in a way similar to the management of traditional alphanumeric structured data. But, accurate indexing and retrieval of images based on image content is much more difficult than with structured data. Dr. Williams’ work recognizes the need for tools to analyze images and create signatures based on image content that will help us index, retrieve, and manage images.
